Okay. I decided to hit the last few main events of 2017. Baby’s first Halloween, Thanksgiving AND Christmas, Austin’s big 30…Just can’t bring myself to sweep them under the rug without mention haha. Prepare for a nice big picture dump – then on to 2018 happenings.
So Halloween. Scarlett is OBSESSED with Halloween. She had our entire family’s costumes picked out over six months before, like I’m talking March. I didn’t think her idea would stick when she told me (in March), “I be wonder woman, brudder be batman, dad be spiderman, and you be umm…captain america.” But it did! She never waivered from her plan haha. [She may however break her record this year…a couple weeks ago while Austin was taking the Christmas lights off the house she said, “Mom when it’s Halloween I gonna be Twilight Sparkle! And you can be Applejack, Ewwis be Spike, and Dad will be….(covers her mouth giggling) Pinkie Pie!” When Austin came in she couldn’t contain herself as she told him haha. She thought it was pretty hilarious. Austin jokingly told her that he wanted to be Rainbow Dash instead, and that night as I was laying next to her putting her to bed, she randomly and in the most serious and thoughtful way says, “Mom, I think dad would really like to be Rainbow Dash instead of Pinkie Pie for Halloween.” Cracked me up. So who knows! We may just be a herd of ponies come Halloween this year. Unless she becomes obsessed with something else before then, whiiich is pretty likely haha.]
To kick off the day Scarlett had preschool. Kaitlin and I signed up to bring the snacks for their little party that day – thank you pinterest for helping us make it festive. Miss Cindy requested that we keep it on the healthy side, hence the lack of sugary treats I was itchin’ to give those cute three year olds. Probably for the best haha.
After Scarlett got home, we had yet to get around to carving our pumpkins so we thought we better tackle that. Better late than never! Austin had the day off work thankfully and whipped out a Batman pumpkin per Scarlett’s request. She’s still a little grossed out by the pumpkin guts but was slightly more involved this year haha.
^Painting is the way to go.
That evening we went over to Kaitlin and Abe’s for dinner and trick or treating. Scarlett had been asking alllll day if it was time to go yet. So much build up to this day and girl wanted to get to it! I loved how excited she was.
Living her dream.
(Side note: Scarlett just asked me today (it’s now February) if it was Halloween yet. And we pretend trick or treat with her toy character people almost every day. Safe to say she’ll be well seasoned come October haha.)
– HAPPY HALLOWEEN –
Staying up to date on this thing is definitely not my forte. I started this post months ago so I figured I might as well finish it off before moving on to current happenings. Oh all the memories I miss documenting haha. Thank goodness for google photos and the thousands and thousands and thousands of pictures we at least have stored all in one place there to look back on.
So, throwing it back to end of June/early July…the Syddall family campout. One of my all time favorite summer traditions! It was the first year we took Scarlett, and her first full blown camping trip, and to say she loved it would be an understatement. Tent sleeping was a little diffcult for our (not-great-at-adjusting-to-sleeping-anywhere-other-than-her-bed-in-her-room-with-her-bunny-and-white-noise-playing) girl. But after a few threats to put her in her pack n’ play and a few mickey mouse episodes later, she eventually caved to the zzzz’s and we survived. A little more tired than usual but so worth it seeing the joy the great outdoors brought to that girl.
The four-wheelers were definitely an obsession. Anytime Scarlett spotted the little blue helmet she would carry it around or go sit on the little four wheeler until she could find someone that would take her on a ride. The way to her heart for sure.
Her best bud. Lynnea is so sweet to let Scarlett drag her everywhere.
Like daddy like daughter.
On our way home and worn out. And check out that super white bunny, proof of a real good time.
Last Friday our sweet Scarlett Ann turned one.
How was this a year ago?! Love love love being your mama, baby girl!
I still don’t really believe that we have a one year old. It’s unreal how fast time flies these days! One year old Scarlett is as spunky as ever. Still a mama’s girl, but has a growing obsession with dad. Every time he gets home from work she gets this huge smile and gets so excited that she usually trips over herself and lands on her face. But then she’s right back up running to his arms. It’s the sweetest thing.
She still l.o.v.e.s to nurse. I’m hoping to wean her soon, but I have no idea how it’s gonna happen. I’m a little lazy about really trying I guess, mostly because I know she’s not going to be a happy camper. She never took a bottle, and only drinks out of a sippy cup for leisure so there’s not a real smooth transition technique. My hope is that my milk supply will slowly dry up so she’ll have to adjust, or that she’ll just lose interest, but knowing her I’ll probably need to put forth a little more effort. We’ll work on that.
You’ll always find her with some random object in her hand. Most the time it’s a ball or two, but anything and everything is game. Straws, mascara, lip gloss, q-tips, socks, dirty laundry, phone cords, balloons, combs, you name it. That girl is never empty handed. She also has this weird thing for a pair of headphones that Aust has. Whenever he has them on, she’s there climbing on his lap, pointing and blabbering away. She usually seems pretty pleased so she must think it’s a good look on him.
Lately she’s been really impressed by monkeys. She thinks it’s sooo funny when we do oo-oo-ah-ah sounds and has started making them whenever she sees a monkey. She has this touch-and-feel animal book and the only page she cares about is the one with the chimp. She’ll open the book straight to that page and leave it there saying ah-ah-ah the entire time. If I try to turn the page she gives me a quick pout and turns it right back to the monkey. So determined! It’s been so fun to watch her pick up on those little things.
She’s still a major Mickey Mouse fan, with Daniel Tiger close behind. The characters in those shows bring her so much joy. Every time she see’s them on the screen her little face lights up, she grins ear to ear, giggles, and squeals with delight. It’s so weird. There are certain parts in a couple episodes that she laughs at every. single. time. It’s my favorite to hear her giggling in the back seat while I’m driving when a “funny” part comes on. I always just think, how does she even know what’s happening?! I’m tellin’ ya, she’s in it deep.
Here are her 12 month stats:
Weight: 17 pounds 14 ounces – 20th percentile
Height: 29.5 inches – 60th percentile
Head circumference: 46.5 cm – 85th percentile
Now for a recap of her birthday celebrations.
We brought a few balloons into her room to start her day. She was pleased as punch.
^^Daniel Tiger was on.
My family got into town around 2 o’clock and were a huge help in getting everything ready for the partay! I’m so so glad they could be there. My grandparents 50th wedding anniversary celebration was the next day so the timing worked out perfectly! Couldn’t have done it without them. My dad even wore his Mickey Mouse shirt to get on Scarlett’s good side. She was intrigued.
^^Huge thanks to my mama for making the perfect banners!
^^And huge thanks to my mother-in-law for making the adorable cakes! I’m surrounded by talented moms!
We decided to go with a hot dog theme in honor of Mickey Mouse. Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog!
^^Favorite “present” of the night.
After dinner we decided to pull out the smash cake. Everyone gathered to sing Happy Birthday which was a bit overwhelming to our shy, quiet-loving, not-a-fan-of-people-in-her-face, girl…
…once the song was over and the cake was in front of her she was able to compose herself.
She was pretty dainty with the cake,
so I threw in a spoon to help her out,
but then she decided she was more interested in the paper flower and her balloon. Whatever floats your boat, honey buns.
We got her cleaned up and in her pj’s to open presents,
which she obviously hasn’t learned is the best part.
After the toys started coming out she became a little more interested.
As we neared the end of gift opening, our little lady was done. We finished up and got that girl to bed! My wonderful mamita is a pro at documenting things and has more pictures and details from the evening on her blog here.
We’re so grateful for all our friends and family that helped make it a special day! Scarlett is blessed to have you all in her life.
Happy birthday, baby girl!
We love you!
I’m behind, again. Why do I always do this to myself. Fair warning…this is going to be a long post with a whole lot crammed in. I want to get all caught up before Scarlett turns one next week. What in the world!
Scarlett is changing by the day I swear. She’s in this stage where she’s just picking up on all these big milestones in a super short amount of time. She finally started crawling on March 22nd, just shy of being ten months old. Then a little over a week later, she took her first solo steps (not too surprising – walking has always been her preferred method of getting around). My family was even in town to witness both of these life changers for her which was fun. She’s the shyest girl I know, but she can turn it on for an audience.
Mint M&M’s from Lexee’s bridal shower the night before did the trick. Who woulda thought?
Then she became our little ten month old.
^^This is what she really thought about it most the time haha
Such a goofball.
Then we celebrated her first Easter.
The week after that, Auntie Lex got married.
Then Scarlett started getting a little more confident with her steps and liked playing the walk-back-and-forth-between-mom-and-dad game.
We thought for sure that she would be walking everywhere within a few days of that but instead she got more and more cautious, to the point where she wouldn’t even take one step without my hand to hold. She must not have been a fan of the occasional hard hit she was taking during her endeavors haha. I was so disappointed because the end of my hunch over, walk-me-around-for-hours-mama, I’ll-throw-a-tantrum-til-you-do days seemed right at my fingertips! Some may have called it naive, but I was 100 percent sure that my life would get so much easier when she started walking on her own. (And people, it has. I’m in heaven with my walking girl.) For anyone that’s spent a decent amount of time around our sweet little Scarlett, you get me. I just call it mama’s girl to the extreme.
On April 27th I took Scarlett for her first swim at the pool with Brittney and Ollie. I was a little nervous about how she would react but she loved it (even though her face in most these pictures suggests otherwise). It’s our new fave activity around here.
And then she was our eleven month old.
^^”Really, guys? This again?”
^^”They call me tubby.”
^^”Eh I guess this isn’t so bad.”
^^”Wait, I’m eleven months old? Say whaaat!?”
Right there with you girl, right there with you. Time flies unbelievably fast.
Then this past Friday, May 15th, she decided she was ready and started really walking! I didn’t have to be there on the other end coercing her, her little hand wasn’t glued to mine every waking hour of the day, it. was. awesome. She’s definitely still a little wobbly but her confidence is growing more and more everyday. She still likes to hold my hand if I’m there to offer it to her, and you can see the nervous look on her face every time she’s walking an extra long stretch but it’s quickly fading away. She’s especially cautious on the tile which is nice because I don’t have to worry as much that she’s gonna do something crazy. It’s even gotten to the point this week where I don’t feel like I have to be right there to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself too badly, she’s getting the balance thing down pat and I am loving it.
This week we’ve just been prepping for her party and trying to wrap our minds around how it’s already been a year!
While we were out shopping we naturally had to try a party hat on, she refuses to wear anything on her head so I wanted to see if it was at all possible. To my surprise, she was pretty ok with it! I think she felt beautiful. Hopefully she’ll like it just as much next week.
^^Then I couldn’t leave these out from earlier this week, I mean those babies!! We still grocery shop with Kaitlin and Bennett pretty much weekly. We love it. And them.
And finally to wrap things up, Tuesday night we were able to go to the Payson Temple open house with some friends. It is the prettiest temple, definitely a must see!
So so thankful for temples and eternal families. We are blessed!
Phewww. We’re back in action. I apologize to anyone that was scared away by the weird “malware” stuff that’s been going on over here. The bright red screen that popped up one day definitely freaked me out. Stupid hackers. Luckily, none of my post content was lost…we just had to delete the entire site and build it from scratch. Such. A. Pain. Hence my major lack of motivation to blog. And the work in progress design. Here’s to hoping that never happens again!
So Christmas! It was perfect. We gathered in Colorado and the entire family was together for the first time (for Christmas that is) since years ago. Aust even had two whole weeks off work so we really got to enjoy the holiday. It slightly helped make up for the 100+ nights that he spent sleeping in a hotel room in 2014. Just like a sliver of slightly. That’s a whole lotta nights for our hard working daddy-o! Since I’m really behind the time with this one, a post of pictures will have to suffice for memory sake. I’ve considered skipping the catching up stuff altogether, but it was Scarlett’s first Christmas so I probably shouldn’t slack. My more put together mama has way more pictures and all the details documented here and here.
We made our way out to Colorado on December 20th and Scarlett did awesome. (Can’t say as much for the way home.) Loved the time we were able to spend with the whole fam before Christmas!
Love this Bronco loving family of mine :)
This little lady came out with quite the haul. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve got grandparents, parents, and aunts/an uncle to celebrate your first Christmas with. Girl, you are loved!
The day after Christmas my wonderful parents treated us all to Cheesecake Factory. So so yummy. Then on the 27th, (I think) we went out to take family pictures. It was cold. Our desired picture taking spot was closed. The camera had a mini freak out. There was an icy slip and fall. And the baby was not very interested in the timed camera on a tripod. Despite things not going completely our way, we still came out with a few decent shots and some fond picture taking memories.
On the 31st, Austin was able to take Lexee and Jason’s engagement pictures. We went to scope out the area beforehand this time to avoid another stressful picture taking experience.
He did an awesome job. And they are a hottie couple.
New Years Eve
^^Not a fan of the fan hat haha.
We determined this was our sixth New Years together. So crazy.
On the 1st, we played dress up with Scarlett. This little red dress was mine as a baby, made with love by my Great Grandma.
This pink dress was my mom’s as a baby, made with love by her Grandma (my Great Grandma).
And we couldn’t resist… :) Scarlett won’t be too happy with us when she gets older.
Over the next couple days we just enjoyed the rest of our time! Did some sleepy shopping, ate some tasty burgers at Crave, and spent lots of quality time with the fam. My mom was the picture queen in between so check back to her posts :) I will be more like her one day.
It was an amazing trip. We’ll all be back together again in a couple short weeks as Lexee’s wedding festivities commence! Can’t wait.
How in the world do we have a six month old!? I feel like she was my newborn baby just yesterday, time flies.
Our sweet Scarlett is full of personality these days. She is soooo goofy. She loves when we talk in really weird raspy voices, she always strains her voice when she talks and thinks it’s super funny (it’s weird haha), and she loves when her daddy plays the, “I’m gonna get you!” game with her. She’s ticklish everywhere but isn’t so sure about the whole tickling thing – sometimes she likes it, sometimes not. And she squeals more than she laughs (most likely because she can feel that voice strain when she squeals, silly silly girl).
She is still a total mama’s girl. She has way more fun with her dad and absolutely adores him, but likes to know that mom isnear by…all the time. Mostly endearing, occasionally obnoxious. But the day will come all too soon that she could care less if I’m right by her side so I’ll enjoy it while I can!
She still has zero interest in taking a bottle, and really I gave up on trying months ago. She loves drinking water out of normal, big people cups and actually does pretty well! We’ve transitioned to sippy cups and she likes them, but not enough to drink a full feeding’s worth of milk from them so we’re still solely a breastfeeding duo. Doesn’t help date nights out very much but I can’t complain that she’s always been a breastfeeding pro. We started working on solids about a month ago but she’s not sold quite yet…getting there. She’ll eat anything I give her off my plate, mashed potatoes in particular, annnnd…that’s probably why she isn’t fond of the baby food jars I try feeding her haha. Oh, and she has a thing for pickles. Must be her daddy’s daughter!
She got her first tooth just two weeks ago on the bottom left! The bottom right followed shortly a couple days later. I have yet to get a picture of those two cute teeth because she refuses to let me pull her lip down, but I’m still working on it. She didn’t handle those first teeth breaking through very well (it probably didn’t help that she got her shots that same week), so I’m not looking forward to all the teething she still has to do. Maybe she’ll surprise me and the rest will be a breeze…a mom can dream!
She sits up and rolls like a rock star but hasn’t given the whole crawling position a go. She doesn’t ever stay on her tummy long enough to practice, just rolls herself on over. Her head is huge (90th percentile) so that probably explains her tummy time laziness. And her mama just says, take your time baby girl! No need to be mobile quite yet :)
Here are her six month stats:
Height – 26.75 in (90th percentile)
Weight – 14 lbs 12 oz (30th percentile)
Head – 43.75 cm (90th percentile)
Love our big headed, tall, skinny girl! Happy half birthday baby!
I’ve never been one to get super into Halloween, but I must say it’s a lot more fun with a little baby to dress up. She pulls off the costume look much better than muah.
The week before Halloween, our friends Sam and Autumn hosted a party at their house. More on that here.
It was fun to get together with everyone and see all their cute costume ideas. Scarlett was oh so proud of her Mickey family :)
Halloween day I took Scarlett over to Austin’s work for a little trick or treating…really more for a chance for her proud papa to show off his baby girl. Luckily she pulled out her charm just in time! I had to wake her up from a nap to get her ready to go and she was not a happy camper. It didn’t help that she hadn’t been feeling great for a couple of days and I was shoving her in frills the second I woke her up. Such a hard life she lives ;)
After we finished up at his work we went back home to snap a few pictures of her before heading over to Kaitlin and Abe’s for the evening.
Minnie by day…skeleton by night.
We had some yummy appetizers and treats and filled our evening with aggravation. For once in our lives, Austin and I came out on top! It was even the six player version which makes it more of a feat. Then while the adults chatted, the babies stayed busy watching Daniel tiger.
Love how close in age they all are! It’s been so fun watching them grow together, cutest friends ever. It was a great holiday!
Who knew that if you were terrible at being consistent with blogging before you had a baby, that you would be even worse after. Shoulda saw that one coming.
I’ll briefly break the past couple months down…
Scarlett has grown up. Like a ton. Can’t believe how fast they learn and grow! She kindarolls over, doesn’t love being on her tummy and hasn’t figured out that it’s an effective means of moving herself around. She’ll roll from tummy to back if we forced her there :) She likes to smile and squeal at her daddy. He’s definitely the fun one.
She even attended her first j.wride concert. What a little groupie babe.
We took our first official family pictures.
Mi familia made another Utah trip, love seeing them so much lately. Then Scarlett and I tagged along on their ride back to Colorado. Scarlett’s first time to grammy’s house, my first time home in almost two years.
Thank goodness for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! Scarlett’s fave.
Can you tell this little lady got hooked up at grammy’s house? New bath, bouncer, high chair, the works!
Scarlett met my high school BFF’s…
…then went to her first choir concert. Auntie M’s beautiful voice lulled her to sleep.
Austin met us in Colorado for the weekend in between work trips. A much needed little break!
Scarlett ate rice cereal for the first time. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
We took Scarlett on her first hike through Castlewood Canyon.
Yes that’s a rattlesnake. One of two we saw on our little hike. Freaky!
My parents threw a little “Meet Scarlett” get together. Perfect chance for Scarlett and Landon to reunite :)
Long story short, we shopped and shopped and shopped until we found the perfect Halloween costume. Minnie Mouse for a girl that loves Mickey!
Props to my mom for making these perfect ears!
We said goodbyes…
…and I took Scarlett on her first plane ride. So not a fan of flying with a baby by myself. Thank goodness for a mom and a sister who took the time to get me all the way to the gate before parting ways.
We are blessed. Looking forward to Halloween this weekend and the rest of the holidays to follow. Stay tuned, more to come!
