a super halloween

Okay. I decided to hit the last few main events of 2017.  Baby’s first Halloween, Thanksgiving AND Christmas, Austin’s big 30…Just can’t bring myself to sweep them under the rug without mention haha.  Prepare for a nice big picture dump – then on to 2018 happenings.

So Halloween.  Scarlett is OBSESSED with Halloween.  She had our entire family’s costumes picked out over six months before, like I’m talking March.  I didn’t think her idea would stick when she told me (in March), “I be wonder woman, brudder be batman, dad be spiderman, and you be umm…captain america.”  But it did!  She never waivered from her plan haha.  [She may however break her record this year…a couple weeks ago while Austin was taking the Christmas lights off the house she said, “Mom when it’s Halloween I gonna be Twilight Sparkle! And you can be Applejack, Ewwis be Spike, and Dad will be….(covers her mouth giggling) Pinkie Pie!” When Austin came in she couldn’t contain herself as she told him haha.  She thought it was pretty hilarious.  Austin jokingly told her that he wanted to be Rainbow Dash instead, and that night as I was laying next to her putting her to bed, she randomly and in the most serious and thoughtful way says, “Mom, I think dad would really like to be Rainbow Dash instead of Pinkie Pie for Halloween.”  Cracked me up.  So who knows!  We may just be a herd of ponies come Halloween this year.  Unless she becomes obsessed with something else before then, whiiich is pretty likely haha.]

To kick off the day Scarlett had preschool.  Kaitlin and I signed up to bring the snacks for their little party that day – thank you pinterest for helping us make it festive.  Miss Cindy requested that we keep it on the healthy side, hence the lack of sugary treats I was itchin’ to give those cute three year olds.  Probably for the best haha.

After Scarlett got home, we had yet to get around to carving our pumpkins so we thought we better tackle that.  Better late than never!  Austin had the day off work thankfully and whipped out a Batman pumpkin per Scarlett’s request.  She’s still a little grossed out by the pumpkin guts but was slightly more involved this year haha.

^Painting is the way to go.

That evening we went over to Kaitlin and Abe’s for dinner and trick or treating.  Scarlett had been asking alllll day if it was time to go yet.  So much build up to this day and girl wanted to get to it! I loved how excited she was.

Living her dream.

(Side note: Scarlett just asked me today (it’s now February) if it was Halloween yet.  And we pretend trick or treat with her toy character people almost every day.  Safe to say she’ll be well seasoned come October haha.)

all fall

I’ve spent the last few months trying to decide the best way for me to document things…Keep blogging since I’m really great at staying on top of it? Blog and try and do some sort of online scrapbook that I could get printed every year? Go the chatbook route just to at least have something printed to look back on? Then the question is do I make one family book or an individual book for each kid? I just don’t know. I also feel like if I make any sort of book I would have to start back from when Scarlett was born which is overwhelming to me. Well guess what…she’s not getting any younger! The task is growing greater with each passing day haha. Just. Can’t. Decide. What I do know is I’ve spent a whole lot of time thinking and zero time doing. That’s not getting me anywhere so I’m catching up slightly on here. That is a start.

So Fall.

I feel like we actually experienced somewhat of a Fall season last year because we escaped October without snow! Always a nice bonus. We spent a good portion of our October month enjoying some of the staple, Utah Fall festivities. We hit up Cornbelly’s a couple different times, once with friends and once with dad. Scarlett was helping me look through these pictures and you would think she was reliving her glory days with the smile they brought to her face. Now she won’t stop talking about the horsey and popcorn pit and cow train.

Now that these pictures are eight months old, it’s so crazy to see how little Scarlett looks! Time is just disappearing before my eyes.

We also got family pictures taken by our friend Sam way back when.

Love my sweet fam.

And then for the Halloween fun!

My friend Whitney threw a cute little Halloween party for the kids. Scarlett thought it would be nice to throw a royal princess tantrum right as we were leaving for the party…and this is what that looked like.

She wasn’t up for the group photo after that ^^ one but I promise she was there.

Then for some first time pumpkin carving with dad.

The pumpkin guts were not her thing.

And then came Halloween! Love our beautiful Belle.

We went trick or treating with Sam and Autumn in their neighborhood which was lots of fun. Scarlett seriously lived for trick or treating. There’s just something about being handed candy when you knock on someone’s door haha. To say she’s already excited for Halloween this year would be an understatement; as of right now if you ask her what she wants to dress up as she’ll tell you Wonder Woman. And baby brother will be Batman, dad will be Spiderman, and mom will be Captain America. (She also reminds me that her friend Oliver will be Hulk, she’s got it all mapped out haha.) I’m actually really hoping she sticks to the idea because it wouldn’t be too bad to whip those costumes together, and I could keep it low key for mom and dad since we’re suuuuch big dress up fans. Time will tell!

Her stash. Girl did good!

And to wrap it up, just a couple more random pictures from around this time frame that make me smile.

^^Scarlett really likes to print things out on the computer. I always ask her what she wants her paper to say and this was her response on this particular day. She knows what she’s talking about!

Love this girl! Can’t believe how much she’s grown since then.

two years old

My baby is two!

[and has been for over a month now but we won’t dwell on that].

Love her.

Scarlett is the sweetest little girl. Still a mama’s girl through and through but she’s always talking my ear off about dada so that makes him pretty special too. She currently thinks my name is “nana”…really don’t know where that came from, but I can’t get her to call me mama for the life of me! I think she knows it bugs me too because she always gets this grin when she says it, little stinker. Looks like I’ll just need to take on a more grandmotherly role? haha.

One of my favorite things about two year old Scarlett is that she has this overwhelming enthusiasm for the simplest things. We always say that she wears her emotions on her sleeve because there’s no need to guess when it comes to how she’s feeling, she lets you know. The absolute best is when she’s happy or excited, she’ll just squeal in delight, hop around, cheer, and very loudly repeat, “woooooow” and “wheeeeeee” and “yaaaaaaay” over and over and over. I don’t even know how to describe it, it’s just like pure joy. The happiness radiating from her is literally tangible. Bubbles, swings, slides, her doggy Conan, rice and beans, seeing her friends, grandparents, birds, airplanes, Monsters inc./Toy Story 3/Cinderella/Frozen, her bunny, you name it! She’ll have you believing that everything she thinks is awesome is the greatest thing in the world at that moment.

Her birthday was no exception which made it so fun this year. In her mind, it was probably the best day of her life so far haha. Every little aspect of that day just made her happy.

We started the day with a balloon extravaganza waiting for her when she woke up.

Having Gampa and Gigi there with us was definitely an added bonus. She loves them.

Then we settled her in to get her very first haircut! Gigi gave her the royal treatment, suckers and all.

After her haircut we got her all bathed and ready so we could surprise her with our present before heading to church. This girl l.o.v.e.s. helping mom cook so we thought a mini kitchen would be the perfect gift.

^Aunt Lynnea is her person.

Safe to say she was very pleased haha.

Then she got to open her presents from grandpa Billy and Gigi. Her faces are priceless.

So so happy. That kitchen is good and stocked.

That evening we had the family over to celebrate. Scarlett is obsessed with her bunny stuffed animals so we thought a bunny theme would be fitting.

2nd Birthday

This little video gets me every time haha. Perfect example of that enthusiasm I was talking about.

Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a special day!

Happy 2nd birthday, baby girl.

We love you so much!

PS. I borrowed a couple of these photos from my mom’s post. More memories here.

all that is december

Holy falling behind. Same old story every. time.

I’ve sat down to write this post a few times, but after a few minutes of not knowing how to start or what to say, I close it up and let it wait for another day. And now nearly six months later, I still really don’t have the words, but I don’t think many are needed. On November 30th, my Uncle Brian was killed in a car accident on his way to work. It was sudden, it was unexpected, and hit so close to home, especially being only weeks after my Aunt Jana’s death. He was such a good man and the greatest uncle, always there to share a good laugh with and talk deals (he and Austin bonded over that one, always on the hunt for a good deal). He left behind a beautiful wife and four sons.

Miss him. Love their family so, so much.

My mom always says things best, I love her post here.

I’m tempted to skip to more current events, but I feel like Christmas and New Years and just December events in general are too big of a things to miss documenting (mostly for Scarlett’s sake). Even if it’s almost half a year late. Here goes nothing.

The beginning of December brought Austin’s 28th birthday. Unfortunately, the only pictures I took that day were when we met up with him on his lunch break at In-and-Out. Scarlett was too tired to celebrate.

I promise we had cake and ice cream that night with his fam. Just no pictures to show for it! Happy birthday, bae ;)

^^Scarlett’s first week of nursery. She was not this happy once we actually made it in there haha. To this day…still not a nursery fan. Doesn’t help that there are nineteen kids in there with her in our new ward. And that’s only one of the nurseries. Needless to say, she will have a plethora of friends her age around here, that’s for sure! Maybe one day she’ll like them.

Cracking up at how she held pencils. She has since grown out of that grip haha.

Little hoodlum.

After living at Austin’s parents house for a couple months, Scarlett finally started to get comfortable with everybody. Aunt Rachelle came back home for the holidays and got in on her good side quick thankfully!

At some point that month we took Scarlett out for a little photo shoot to get some up to date pictures…

Obsessed with her.

Then this happened. (Good thing they’re already married now). Congrats to Mitch and Kenzie!

We were extra lucky this year and also had my family in town through Christmas. The Goldsberry clan did a progressive dinner and Scarlett enjoyed her time being Santa with grandpa Billy.

^^Her sweet little Christmas dress from Gigi. Not the greatest picture but all I remember is she was not having it that day…hence the one and only picture. Oh well, still the cutest little dress ever. Worth documenting!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Even though we spent Christmas with Austin’s fam this year my parents still included us in the Syddall Christmas pj’s tradition.

Excuse the poor quality pic, it’s all I got. Go BYU!

Santa done good.

Getting ready to go see what Santa brought! Scarlett’s reaction when she saw her presents was the cutest. Here’s a little clip of it.

I can’t get over the hands on face after I set her down hahaha. She loves that car.

Loving the cute busy bag book she got from Grandma Judy. In for hours of entertainment! Scarlett is blessed with extremely talented and creative grandmas.

Seestor chat time! Miss that girl!

It was a great Christmas! It’s so fun having a kid who’s getting old enough to think it’s awesome too. Can’t wait for her birthday this weekend.

And since this post isn’t long enough already, here’s a few New Years pics for ya.

We started the night at Sam and Autumn’s house for a fun New Years party. We lasted til about 10:30 before miss Scarlett was done.

So, we headed back to Austin’s parents house, got her to bed, watched the ball drop and took our first 2016 selfie.

I think these new years get more exciting every year ;) Happy New Year e’rybody. Hope the first half of it has treated you well!

halloween with a hula girl

I struggled to come up with costume ideas for Halloween this year (last year technically). I had intentions of trying to put something together before we left for Hawaii, but with all the other craziness going on it didn’t quite make the priority cut. I knew my time would be short after we got back from our trip but thankfully while we were there, we saw these adorable little coconut bra, hula girl outfits and Aust had the ingenious idea to get one for Scarlett for Halloween. Add a couple leis and Hawaiian shirts in the mix for ma and pa and there we had it! And it wasn’t even cheesy because we were legitimately in Hawaii right before :) we were authentic.

PS, totally got our shirts at DI. The ones in Hawaii are expeeeensive! Not worth it for a one time wear, and these DI ones probably came from Hawaii at some point anyway haha. Plus they semi-matched! DI for the win.

Cutest little hula girl I ever did see.

Halloween night I took Scarlett on her first trick or treat run! Austin had been working on a video with Jesse most of the day which ended up going really long so they missed the good stuff. Such a bummer for the daddios! I had spent the day with Brittney and Oliver so we headed over together to Jesse’s parents house to begin the festivities.

Ignore the terrible filming haha. I was short a couple extra hands. Love that hula girl and that plump little tiger!

[three month late] Halloween!

moving on out

What a whirlwind the past couple months have been!

First things first, we decided to build a house! It wasn’t something that we had been considering really at all, but after the opportunity presented itself and after some prayerful deliberation, we felt that the time and the place was right. Crazy how that works sometimes! So in about a week’s time frame we went from being happy with where we were at for the next few years to signing on a new lot and listing our house for sale (which included long days and late nights de-cluttering, cleaning, and touching up to get it “show ready”… I don’t look back fondly on that week to say the least). Our house was listed in the afternoon on August 26th, we had two walkthroughs that night, received offers from both for our full asking price, and were officially under contract about 24 hours later. Insane. How quickly everything fell together just helped confirm that we were headed the right direction.

Another huge blessing during this whole process was getting the lot we got. After we picked the area and the builder we wanted to go with, we met with them to look at what lots they had available. It’s a new area so they’re building in “phases” and we got in toward the end of the current phase meaning there were only about six lots left to choose from. The next phase wouldn’t be ready for another year and a half plus so this was our chance to get it at it’s current price.

Going into it we knew we really wanted a corner lot. I was nervous that they wouldn’t have one available since we were jumping on the wagon a little later than most, plus you can’t build the same model as any house next door or across the street which makes it even more limiting. When we went in, our agent showed us the lots that we could build our model on and boom! A corner. Hallelujah!

The next day before we went back to sign on it, Aust got a phone call from our agent telling us that he had mistakenly overlooked that the lot we had chosen already had plans for a spec home (still our same model) to be built on it. Instant heart sink. Buuut because he made the mistake he would see if they could sign it over to us, and we could go in and switch any of the options that had already been selected for the spec home to whatever we wanted. Hopes again high! He made a few phone calls, made the adjustments and fortunately we were set to move forward! Huge, huge blessing. The lot hadn’t been made available to anyone else since it was reserved as a spec home, and the neighboring lots weren’t able to choose our model since it was already set for the spec, so despite coming on a little late in the game, we still got our dream lot. And bonus, they’re building the 50+ homes in the order they were signed on (some have been waiting since March), but our lot was among the first submitted (as a spec home) so it’s getting built with the first bunch.  Another huge, huge blessing.

So thankful that everything worked out.

The following weeks were crazy. Initially we thought we only had about 2.5 weeks to move out. Commence packing overhaul! Due to some delays with the appraisal and with the buyer’s financing it ended up being about a month. But we were in limbo for most that time not knowing if we would get a phone call saying we had two days to be out sort of thing. It was a pain. Scarlett was pretty patient with us as we tore her life apart and found some ways to keep busy during the chaos of it all.

Mom and dad even snuck away from the mess to go to a Real Salt Lake game one night. Thanks Kaitlin and Abe!

On September 26th, we took the plunge and moved out! Mostly to a storage unit and partly to Austin’s parents house. We still hadn’t closed but it was supposed to happen early the next week and we wanted to use the weekend verses trying to move in between work and stuff. Things were busy so I forgot to take pictures of everyone that helped but thank you to all that were there throughout the day! These were our troopers there from start to finish.

It was one of the longest days ever. And we didn’t fit everything in the truck so me and Aust had to do it again the next day. So not looking forward to moving it all in a couple months but the new house will make it worth it!

As we got settled into Austin’s parents house (so grateful for their hospitality) Scarlett found a few other ways to stay busy.

20150928_174323^^The lawn mower has become an obsession…

…along with the leaf blower.

IMG_20151004_120616^^This Daniel Tiger box was from Gigi. She sent Scarlett a couple new sweaters and bath toys but the box tops it all. She still carries that thing around and puts her all of her items in it.

Snapchat-2821853312869997973^^Can you get any closer Scarlett?

^^She learned how to steal the show. Ta da!
^^Poor girl was getting too risky on grandma and grandpa’s furniture.

The next week I spent a couple days back at our house cleaning and saying adieu. Grandma Judy was kind enough to watch Scarlett so I could get ‘er done.

Snapchat-6010050435461058369 Snapchat-3748821911445322319 Snapchat-2683818130877772999 Snapchat-4844017087589556647 Snapchat-6694537434921282470 Snapchat-1151468402213143399 Snapchat-820322874119038504 Snapchat-7401016599963629216 Snapchat-1267384681060781757 Snapchat-4034630259193475559  Snapchat-8309922847511893960 Snapchat-8554552984304851892

Gotta love my snaps. I felt a little more sentimental than I expected as I said goodbye to the house. It was just such a good first house! And Scarlett absolutely loved that place. But there will be many more memories to be made and good times to be shared in our new house! And she’s obsessed with the model home that’s the same as ours so I’m sure she’ll settle right in. Before we closed (which ended up happening on October 6th) we made a couple last stops at the house to drop off the keys and such. This video gives you a little glimpse of Scarlett’s joy to be back there (we had been moved out for about a week at this point).

It was so sweet but made me feel sad all over again. That baby’s life has been turned upside down!

Then on October 22nd, after a Hawaii trip, the sudden passing of my dear Aunt Jana, and a whole lotta in between (updates to come), the digging began! Seeing it get started makes it feel way more real and makes me that much more excited.

New house, we’re coming for ya! Can’t wait.

fifteen months

I can’t believe that Scarlett is 15 months old already. I swear we just celebrated her first birthday and she’s already a quarter of the way to two! The {hard} days sometimes seem to drag on but the weeks and months just slip away!

This is the dress I wore for my one year old pictures. We’re a few months late on the timeline but she’s rocking that ball of frill.

scanned picture0018

So fifteen month old Scarlett. She is a hoot. And a sass-o-frass. And a little sugar and spice and everything in between. She can be the sweetest thing when she wants to be; talks nonstop in her soft little baby voice, plays so nicely with her toys, thinks everything you do is so funny, gives lots of loves and kisses…it’s the absolute best. More commonly however we get a mixed version of sweet Scarlett and sassy Scarlett. She’ll be happy as can be one minute, then she runs her little car into the wall which isn’t the way she wanted it to go so nothing is right in the world anymore. After a couple minutes she’s usually over it and onto the next thing until it eventually makes her mad too. Such a vicious cycle ;)

She has mastered the art of tantrum throwing. When things aren’t going her way she throws herself on the ground, gives a couple kicks, then stands up and runs closer to me to do it again. Wants me to get the full effect in case I missed it the first time haha. So dramatic. Once she’s got it out of her system she’s always ready for some cuddles which I’ll take any day. Makes sitting through the tantrum slightly worth it, but we’re working towards omitting that part altogether and skipping straight to the loves. A mom can dream!

She has a few different voices she likes to use. One is her sweet, soft, normal voice like I mentioned above, the other is her high pitched, excited voice, another is her monkey voice (lots of ah-ah-ahs), and the other her low, raspy, grumpy, don’t-talk-to-me, don’t-look-at-me, I-don’t-like-you, leave-me-alone voice.  The latter is what she uses most often with strangers or basically anyone that’s not me or Austin haha. Such a friendly little girl! That voice also comes out when we tell her that she can’t play in Conan’s water bowl, the toilet, etc. She’s good at listening to us most the time but she lets us know that she’s not happy about it!

Despite the attitude I really am loving her at this age. She’s picking up on things so fast. She’s getting so much more adventurous with her little body, running, and climbing, and exploring constantly. She even goes down the slide at the park by herself a lot of the time which like happened overnight I swear; she never had much interest in the slides then boom! Just figured it out, doesn’t need her mama anymore (except to catch her at the bottom). I’m always amazed at what that mini body can do. This new found adventurous side of hers has resulted in quite the bumps and bruises lately but she’s figuring things out and learning more control little by little each day.

She is also a chatterbox. Still nothing but a few words that are comprehend-able but it’s so cute. When she’s in a good mood, she’ll chat Austin’s ear off when he gets home from work. Just has to lay it all out for him, give him all the deets from the day. She also gets really chatty in the tub during her baths. Ya know, just our girl talk time, it’s my favorite. And even though she’s not saying many words yet, she’s starting to understand things super well. I’m always impressed when I say something and she actually knows what I’m talking about! Like whenever I tell her it’s bath time she heads right up the stairs and into the bathroom, when I ask her if she wants to read a book she grabs one and sits down, when I tell her it’s night night time she grabs her blankie, wants me to hold her, starts rubbing her eyes, and does a little tired whine. I love it all.

Oh and just because it’s a huge feat for her/me, she officially stopped nursing a few weeks ago! August 17th to be exact. And I must say she handled it with grace. I dreaded the whole weaning thing because of how attached she was to nursing, not necessarily for the food but for the comfort. It was her thing – what calmed her when she was upset, what put her to sleep for naps and for bed – I had no idea how we were going to make that all happen everyday without it. But with a Hawaii trip around the corner for her mama and dada it had to be done. And probably for the best because I really would have had zero motivation otherwise. So after we got back from San Diego, I started knocking off one feeding a week. She was consistently nursing four times a day at that point so we started with the late afternoon snack, then hit the nap feeding, then the morning, and last the night. There were a few tense moments and a couple hard days for sure, but nothing near what I had anticipated. With the help of Daniel Tiger we made it through! And we both lived to tell the tale. So proud of that girl.

Some of her favorite things lately in no particular order are: touching every flower she sees, pushing her stroller and/or the cart around at the store by herself, playing at the park, walking outside, climbing on anything and everything, hiding behind curtains, stacking blocks, her Winnie the Pooh car, her blankies, shoes, Daniel Tiger (unhealthy obsession), grapes, strawberries, craisins, veggie straws, chicken, broccoli, mac-n-cheese, edamame, Chewy bars, protein shakes (random), any chair that’s her size (our doctor’s office is full of them, she was in heaven), sorting/throwing/eating crayons, her Poke-a-Dot book, her busy book from Gigi, Dear Zoo, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Little Blue Truck, The Foot Book, monkeys, bath time, Pat-a-Cake, If You’re Happy and You Know It, carrying little baskets/buckets/bags around, playing with her hair, standing on her head, walking around with blankets on her head, necklaces, opening/closing drawers, organizing my makeup, taking off her diaper and running away, playing in the dog food/water (she got her first taste like a week ago – yuck), back scratches, being tickled by dad, being held by mom (a blessing and a curse), and pushing her boundaries to the limits every single day!

the birthday girl

Last Friday our sweet Scarlett Ann turned one.

How was this a year ago?!  Love love love being your mama, baby girl!

I still don’t really believe that we have a one year old.  It’s unreal how fast time flies these days!  One year old Scarlett is as spunky as ever.  Still a mama’s girl, but has a growing obsession with dad.  Every time he gets home from work she gets this huge smile and gets so excited that she usually trips over herself and lands on her face.  But then she’s right back up running to his arms.  It’s the sweetest thing.

She still l.o.v.e.s to nurse.  I’m hoping to wean her soon, but I have no idea how it’s gonna happen.  I’m a little lazy about really trying I guess, mostly because I know she’s not going to be a happy camper.  She never took a bottle, and only drinks out of a sippy cup for leisure so there’s not a real smooth transition technique.  My hope is that my milk supply will slowly dry up so she’ll have to adjust, or that she’ll just lose interest, but knowing her I’ll probably need to put forth a little more effort.  We’ll work on that.

You’ll always find her with some random object in her hand.  Most the time it’s a ball or two, but anything and everything is game.  Straws, mascara, lip gloss, q-tips, socks, dirty laundry, phone cords, balloons, combs, you name it.  That girl is never empty handed.  She also has this weird thing for a pair of headphones that Aust has.  Whenever he has them on, she’s there climbing on his lap, pointing and blabbering away.  She usually seems pretty pleased so she must think it’s a good look on him.

Lately she’s been really impressed by monkeys.  She thinks it’s sooo funny when we do oo-oo-ah-ah sounds and has started making them whenever she sees a monkey.  She has this touch-and-feel animal book and the only page she cares about is the one with the chimp.  She’ll open the book straight to that page and leave it there saying ah-ah-ah the entire time.  If I try to turn the page she gives me a quick pout and turns it right back to the monkey.  So determined!  It’s been so fun to watch her pick up on those little things.

She’s still a major Mickey Mouse fan, with Daniel Tiger close behind.  The characters in those shows bring her so much joy.  Every time she see’s them on the screen her little face lights up, she grins ear to ear, giggles, and squeals with delight.  It’s so weird.  There are certain parts in a couple episodes that she laughs at every. single. time.  It’s my favorite to hear her giggling in the back seat while I’m driving when a “funny” part comes on.  I always just think, how does she even know what’s happening?!  I’m tellin’ ya, she’s in it deep.

Here are her 12 month stats:

Weight: 17 pounds 14 ounces – 20th percentile

Height: 29.5 inches – 60th percentile

Head circumference: 46.5 cm – 85th percentile

Love her.

Now for a recap of her birthday celebrations.

We brought a few balloons into her room to start her day.  She was pleased as punch.

^^Daniel Tiger was on.

My family got into town around 2 o’clock and were a huge help in getting everything ready for the partay! I’m so so glad they could be there.  My grandparents 50th wedding anniversary celebration was the next day so the timing worked out perfectly!  Couldn’t have done it without them.  My dad even wore his Mickey Mouse shirt to get on Scarlett’s good side.  She was intrigued.

^^Huge thanks to my mama for making the perfect banners!

^^And huge thanks to my mother-in-law for making the adorable cakes! I’m surrounded by talented moms!

We decided to go with a hot dog theme in honor of Mickey Mouse.  Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog!

^^Favorite “present” of the night.

After dinner we decided to pull out the smash cake.  Everyone gathered to sing Happy Birthday which was a bit overwhelming to our shy, quiet-loving, not-a-fan-of-people-in-her-face, girl…

…once the song was over and the cake was in front of her she was able to compose herself.

She was pretty dainty with the cake,

so I threw in a spoon to help her out,

but then she decided she was more interested in the paper flower and her balloon.  Whatever floats your boat, honey buns.

We got her cleaned up and in her pj’s to open presents,

which she obviously hasn’t learned is the best part.

After the toys started coming out she became a little more interested.

As we neared the end of gift opening, our little lady was done.  We finished up and got that girl to bed!  My wonderful mamita is a pro at documenting things and has more pictures and details from the evening on her blog here.

We’re so grateful for all our friends and family that helped make it a special day!  Scarlett is blessed to have you all in her life.

Happy birthday, baby girl!

We love you!

the past month{s} in review

I’m behind, again.  Why do I always do this to myself.  Fair warning…this is going to be a long post with a whole lot crammed in.  I want to get all caught up before Scarlett turns one next week.  What in the world!

Scarlett is changing by the day I swear.  She’s in this stage where she’s just picking up on all these big milestones in a super short amount of time.  She finally started crawling on March 22nd, just shy of being ten months old.  Then a little over a week later, she took her first solo steps (not too surprising – walking has always been her preferred method of getting around).  My family was even in town to witness both of these life changers for her which was fun.  She’s the shyest girl I know, but she can turn it on for an audience.

Mint M&M’s from Lexee’s bridal shower the night before did the trick.  Who woulda thought?

Then she became our little ten month old.

^^This is what she really thought about it most the time haha

Such a goofball.

Then we celebrated her first Easter.

The week after that, Auntie Lex got married.

You can see all the pictures and read about that here and here.

Then Scarlett started getting a little more confident with her steps and liked playing the walk-back-and-forth-between-mom-and-dad game.

We thought for sure that she would be walking everywhere within a few days of that but instead she got more and more cautious, to the point where she wouldn’t even take one step without my hand to hold.  She must not have been a fan of the occasional hard hit she was taking during her endeavors haha.  I was so disappointed because the end of my hunch over, walk-me-around-for-hours-mama, I’ll-throw-a-tantrum-til-you-do days seemed right at my fingertips!  Some may have called it naive, but I was 100 percent sure that my life would get so much easier when she started walking on her own. (And people, it has.  I’m in heaven with my walking girl.) For anyone that’s spent a decent amount of time around our sweet little Scarlett, you get me.  I just call it mama’s girl to the extreme.

On April 27th I took Scarlett for her first swim at the pool with Brittney and Ollie.  I was a little nervous about how she would react but she loved it (even though her face in most these pictures suggests otherwise).  It’s our new fave activity around here.

And then she was our eleven month old.

^^”Really, guys? This again?”

^^”They call me tubby.”

^^”Eh I guess this isn’t so bad.”

^^”Wait, I’m eleven months old? Say whaaat!?”

Right there with you girl, right there with you.  Time flies unbelievably fast.

Then this past Friday, May 15th, she decided she was ready and started really walking!  I didn’t have to be there on the other end coercing her, her little hand wasn’t glued to mine every waking hour of the day, it. was. awesome.  She’s definitely still a little wobbly but her confidence is growing more and more everyday.  She still likes to hold my hand if I’m there to offer it to her, and you can see the nervous look on her face every time she’s walking an extra long stretch but it’s quickly fading away.  She’s especially cautious on the tile which is nice because I don’t have to worry as much that she’s gonna do something crazy.  It’s even gotten to the point this week where I don’t feel like I have to be right there to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself too badly, she’s getting the balance thing down pat and I am loving it.

This week we’ve just been prepping for her party and trying to wrap our minds around how it’s already been a year!

While we were out shopping we naturally had to try a party hat on, she refuses to wear anything on her head so I wanted to see if it was at all possible.  To my surprise, she was pretty ok with it!  I think she felt beautiful.  Hopefully she’ll like it just as much next week.

^^Then I couldn’t leave these out from earlier this week, I mean those babies!!  We still grocery shop with Kaitlin and Bennett pretty much weekly.  We love it.  And them.

And finally to wrap things up, Tuesday night we were able to go to the Payson Temple open house with some friends.  It is the prettiest temple, definitely a must see!

So so thankful for temples and eternal families.  We are blessed!
